Giving Back to the Community

Our chapter was designated by the Lake County Transportation Division/Lake County Board of Commissioners as a member of the Adopt-A –Highway Program on October 24, 2019.
Involvement in this program is the result of the Northern Lake County  IL chapter of The Compassionate Friends members who wished to actively give back to the community.  Collectively, as grieving parents, grandparents and siblings, we recognize that many of the communities supported us in our darkest hours.   This program provides an opportunity for
us to symbolically reciprocate.

Our chapter is now responsible for picking up litter two times a year, in the spring and fall, along both sides of Deep Lake Road from IL Rte 173 to the county line road with Wisconsin.
This is a distance of 2 miles.   The Lake County Transportation division will provide safety signs, safety vests, bags and guidelines for participants.  Participants will need to bring gloves, a device for picking up garbage (if desired),  long pants and appropriate shoes.

847-366-9375.  Future notifications of the litter pickup events and guidelines will be made public through our monthly chapter newsletter, emails to interested persons, and possibly direct mailings.

Creating Art in Memory of
Our Loved Ones - Third Annual Event

You are invited to attend
the memorial "make and take" event for parents, grandparents and siblings. Each person may choose a simple craft project and create a very personal memorial of your loved one for you to take home.

Thursday, September 21, 2023
at 7:00pm – 8:30pm.
Location: Millburn Congregational Church 19073 West Old Town Court, Lake Villa, IL 60046.
